Growing up online

Did not surprise me:

  1. Teens can be a different person.
  2. Many teens are being disconnected from society and are being more connected to the internet.
  3. Some teens create a different person online without their parents knowing.
  4. Some teens insult themselves through myspace.
  5. Teachers use turnitip a program that detects if students are doing plagerism form the internet.
  6. While people are online they tend to be more agressive because nobody knows whos behind the computer.
  7. Regarding to #5 in surprised me some kids dont give their passwords to their parents
  8. Hearing things many times tend to make it seem as a reality.
  9. Criminals are with pseudonyms on the internet.
  10. Addiction to the internet is now possible.
  11. Girls take nude pictures
  12. Kids post videos and pictures of themselves drinking.

Surprised me:

  1. Teens play games on the internet and call it parties.
  2. There are webpages that teach kids to suicide
  3. Also some webpages do an aptitude test and tell you what is the best way to commit suicide.
  4. Not so many kids accept a message or request from an online stranger
  5. Some parents have the internet so restricted they ask for passwords.
  6. out of 7 kids only one is stalked by a sexual predator.
  7. A girl after knowing the mistake she made by showing pictures of herself online, goes back to the internet to show pictures.
  8. Some parents support their children in the missuse of the internet because they think it is the only way they can express themselves.
  9. Some parents do not carae about what their children do on the internet.

Changed about technology:

  1. Myspace isnt used anymore.
  2. Internet was mostly used socially
  3. Computers now have more restrictions.

GAFE

Google Maps and Google earth.
Google maps is a a page from Google that has maps of all the world. It has street maps of almost anywhere, you can also choose the option of satellite map.
Google maps has many characteristics:

  • On the right side
    • You can place any direction and it takes you there
    • You can see your current location
    • You can also ask for directions from one place to another, print it and share it.
  • On the left top corner
    • You can see multiple pictures of some places
    • You can also see wikipedia articles of some places, like cities, countries, and museums
    • You can check the climate of multiple locations in the world
    • Videos
    • Traffic
    • And the topography of the world
Some advantages of Google Maps are:
  • It is fast and efficient
  • You can view any part of the world
  • You don't need an account
Google earth is a 3-dimensional map of the world, more like a digital globe. It isn't only a globe of the earth it also has a globe of Mars, the Moon, and it has a sky map of the stars. Some characteristics are:
Well the best way the school could use this is in social studies classe studying maps, climate and all the characteristcs that this gives. Also for an astronomy class the sky map might be helpful.

Google day#3

Goals:

  • The previous classes I only looked at engineering. So today I want to look into architecture and medicine.
  • Find the salaries for each.
  • Then I want to see colleges for the careers.
Links:
  • I medicine I am only interested in being a surgeon or a anesthesiologists. The salary for being a surgeon is above 166,444 dollars yearly. An anesthesiologist also makes 166,444 dollars yearly.
  • An architect's salary is 91,700 dollars yearly.
  • Architecture is a very risky career because there is an unemployment rate of 10% for this career.
  • The best ranked universities for engineering are: Princeton University, and Stanford University.
  • For Medicine the best universities are: Oxford University and Harvard University.
Goal:
I don't really have a goal I just want to see to which colleges of engineering or any of those careers I can apply to with my GPA.

google day 1

Goals

  • Find a topic probably it is going to be very hard because i don't know to much about what i want to do in the future.
  • Well find info about the topic.
  • Then work in the topic.
I think i am going to compare to investigate in depth 4 careers maybe more if i consider another, but the careers are: Surgeon,  architect and industrial engineer, civil engineer, or probably just an engineer.
  1. There are many types of engineer but many dont call my atention the ones that do are: Aerospace engineer, Agricultural engineer, biomedical engineer, chemical engineer, civil engineer, environmental engineer, industrial enginner, nuclear engineer, petroleum engineer.
  2. Salaries for each engineer (annualy in dolars):
    1. Aerospace: 97,480
    2. Agricultural: 71,090
    3. Biomedical: 81,540
    4. Chemical: 90,330
    5. Civil: 77,560
    6. Environmental: 78,740
    7. Industrial: 76,100
    8. Nuclear: 99,920
    9. Petroleum: 114,080
  3. Avalability:
    1. Aerospace:
    2. Agricultural:
    3. Biomedical:
    4. Chemical:
    5. Civil:
    6. Environmental:
    7. Industrial:
    8. Nuclear:
    9. Petroleum:
  4. Unfortunately I could not finish what I wanted to do today because I couldnt decide on what to do it.
  5. So for the next class i wanna finish what i wnated for today, also i want to find out collages in which I can study all these and the longitud of the career.

Augmented reality

What I know about this topic: I know nothing about it.
Questions I have: What is it? and how does it work?
Useful links:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/augmented-reality.htm
http://www.technologyreview.com/review/428212/you-will-want-google-goggles/
What I learn:

  1. Augmented reality is a type of technology that integrates the real world with computer generated environments. Such devices or programs already exist like the Google glasses or the iPhone apps.
  2. This type of technology can be used in the army for the soldiers to identify weapons or place marks on  people or objects to identify danger.
  3. It can also be used in commerce for the buyer to see more information about the product also they can be able to see the product without opening it.
  4.  Also for architecture results for the project can be seen, how it would look like without the structure being physical.
  5. Not only can you see it in the computer screen but you can also see it in real life with projectors that bring he information to life.
Well I actually had like this a lot, you can see it in many movies like in the iron man suit or in the star wars conferences between Jedis. I have an app in my phone that scans products and tells me the price but i am anxious of getting more of this technology.
Question I still have:
Due to lack of time I couldn't figure out how it worked. So How does this work?

Disegn project day 5

We interviewed a boy about 10 years old, and he told us that it was fun. What he like about it was the difficulty of trying to score on the higher points sticks. He didn't like the rings, they were kind of fragile.
-What was the biggest problem you encountered? How did you solve it?
The thing that was bugging us the most or the biggest problem was making the sticks and making them stand, due to the weight of the rings they toppled the sticks. To make the sticks strong we pasted them with silicon, even though when we came to see the game they had fallen.
-When did you get your biggest "AH HA" idea? What was it?
There where 3 ahas the first was using a silicon gun because thanks to that we enconomized a lot of time and made the sticks more stable. The second was using pencils as sticks because they werent so thick or thin and could easily be pasted to the board in which we made the game. The third even though I didnt agree at the beggining was making the slanted part. It was an aha because the game was more challenging and fun.
-Who in your group resisted new ideas the most and why?
Actually it was me I didnt want to include the slanted part. I thought it was going to be hard to make and we wouldnt finish the project if we did it. It was actually very easy and made the game better.
-What doubts did YOU have about the project and how did you overcome those doubts?
I thought that the rings were going to fit in the sticks because or the hole was to small or there wasnt almost any space between pencils. To solve this i proposed to make the rings small and thin also to dont put maky sticks.
-What doubts did YOU have about the project and how did you overcome those doubts?
I got to blame myself. But due to my complains and work the game was a lot better. I was heading for perfection and design. If something was done different from what we had agreed or wrong i would get pissed.-What did you learn about yourself, teamwork, and the design process?
I learned that in team work there isnt any useless work or idea, all ideas help improve and sometimes not, but when it isnt still it helps. When we work in group it is easier to see the flaws of the product.

design project day 3

Yes our descriptions match the game because they have clear objectives and very competitive
The most powerful skills are the base and the rings
We want to keep the slanted wall.
maybe we can put more sticks for the ring so that it is easier.
Step-by-Step

Cardboard base
Cut holes for the sticks
Put the sticks
Tape them
Make them stable
Make the rings

Materials:
Silicon gun, paint - Boffi
Stick - Silva
Brush - Samper

Design project day 2

Miguel's project has the most strength because it is the most creative and is a bigger field for the ring to go into the sticks. It isn't only flat but has a diagonal wall.
Changes: have an arrangement of the sticks.Without legs.
We dont consider anything form another model may need to be inlcuded.
Feed back
MAke sticks stronger and more stable, it was good because it was hard and interactive, make the sticks a little bit more slanted.

Design Project day 1

Partners: Miguel Samper, Candelaria Boffi
User: Middle school boys and girls
Difficulty medium
Fun: eassy to understand, Competitive, IT has an objective, Multiplayer, innovative
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cEWELoxEsY
I liked that it is something very complex and you can see the hardwork. It is hard but easy to understand, so you would get addicted to it trying to win.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd7x-F5irBY
It is very interactive, it fun, you do exercise inside of this, the objective is very clear but hard to achieve, the reward is great.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeT4-4Xx4BY
It is very hard, there is a reward at the end, it is made for all users, it very interactive, there is a goal.
games: SHoot in the hole, insert the ring, spin the wheel guess on what it falls
WE chose insert the ring
Arcade Game: competitive, hard, can be multiplayer, theres a winner, there is an objective, easy to understand
Thigs that go wrong: The ring is to light and has air resistance make it heavy, not enough space between sticks measure well, things could break protect it with tape.
